The first 3 are DEFINITELY the best. And I'm not going to disagree, I think they did get a little commercial in the last 2. But there were still some good tracks off those albums.
Cigaro(Mezmerize) could have easily been on one of the first 3 albums. Revenga was great. This Cocaine Makes Me Feel Like I'm On This Song...that title alone makes me love the song...who else comes up with that besides SOAD?? Violent Pornography was also a decent track, IMO. Not a complete loss. And B.Y.O.B....if you're going to bring up lyrics, how can you hate that song?? The entire concept of that song is part of what they're most known for. And how many other bands do you know of that can mix all those different sounds of music(as far as genres) into ONE song?? Not many. So for that, I give it up to them for that song, even if it took me a few listens to realize it was a good track.
Ok, so maybe the only track I really enjoyed off of Hypnotize was "Vicinity of Obscenity", but it wasn't a complete loss, either. I think people just didn't like that System got so popular and MTV had them all over the place by the time those two albums came out...so it seemed more mainstream. Had they stayed at the level of fame they had when maybe Steal This Album! or Toxicity came out, I don't think people would be talking the same mess they do now about their last 2 albums.
Then again, I'm a huge fan of John Dolmayan's drumming, which happened to be great on Mezmerize. So maybe that had a lot to do with my satisfaction with that album. I don't think he really got to show what he could do on Hypnotize, but Mezmerize was great for him.
But yea, everyone that's a System fan pretty much knows nothing's gonna touch those first 3 albums!! Actually, 4 albums, but the first one's so hard to find ha. That doesn't mean the last two were ****.System of a down has gone down hill?
Well system have changed alot over the years, they have had to adapt and make a more mainstream sound for the less hardcore system fans out there, because system didnt get extremely famous till 2001, then in 2002 they released "steal this album" but that was from material that was refused to be put on Toxicity, So really before they got all the mainstream attention they wrote songs that the hardcore fans would enjoy the most.
But in 2005 system had to release material that appealed to a wider audience then the hardcore fans, hence the reason they released sucessfull singles such as B.Y.O.B.
They were trying to please the majority and not the hardcore fans.
But in my oppinion every soad song is good, i appritiate what they stand for.
