A Great Entertainer

“The king of pop has been pronounced dead.’’ I’m struck with shock as I stare at the T.V. in disbelief. When the realizations of his words sink in, my heart drops- along with millions across the globe.

Music and dance was forever revolutionized by one man. Trends were set, records were shattered, and hearts were permanently touched. The whole world could only watch in astoundment as this phenomenon altered lives, and established the true meaning of entertainment.

You may be wondering, “who is this influential prodigy’’? It is none other than the world renound king of pop Michael Jackson. The death of this legend was a tragic and heartbreaking announcement for many. Its no surprise that countless families, communities, and fellow entertainers waste no time commemorating the admirable life he lived and, adventures he conquered.

Michael was born on August 29, 1958 in Gary Indiana. In a large family of nine he was the eighth child. The family created the Jackson 5, which consisted of the five boys. Michael was the little star of the group and it was soon recognized as he set off his solo career.

In 1982 his second album Thriller was released. With Michael composing four of the records songs, it remains in the Guinness book of world records for best selling album of all time. The album won a record breaking eight Grammy’s, eight American music awards, and is the only album to be the best-selling album for two whole years.

After that unpredictable success it was clear that Michael was a force to be reckoned with. His smooth beats, catchy lyrics, and flawless voice made everyone get up and swing to the music. Take beat it for example-“Just beat it beat it beat it beat it no one wants to be defeated, showin how funky and strong is your fight it doesn’t matter whose wrong or right just beat it beat it beat it beat it.’’ Those lyrics had everyone humming that familiar tune.

Not only was the artist’s lyrics one of a kind but so was his voice. Allmusic called him “a blindly gifted vocalist.” Rolling Stones also said “Jackson’s feathery –tempered tenor is extraordinarily beautiful. It slides smoothly into a startling falsetto that’s used daringly.” Not to mention his signature yells and “vocal hiccups” in the songs that only he could achieve.

Now Michael didn’t just have the vocals and the beats down. He had some moves. The way that man moved was like nothing the world had ever seen. The two

He’s most notorious for are the moonwalk and the Smooth Criminal lean.

On March 25,1983 Michael performed at Motown 25 and what an unforgettable performance it was. During his song Billy Jean Michael begins- gliding across the floor backwards as if walking on the moon, spins around, and landed on the tips of his toes. The crowd gasps and cheers in amazement at this unseen dance.

October 1988 the single Smooth Criminal was released from the album Bad. The video was a 1930’s style nightclub theme. During the video keeping his body straight Michael leans at a 45-degree angle completely defying gravity. Not only in the video but on stage performing!

Seeing those dances was mind-blowing to young and old of every race. I to look at those videos and wonder “how is that even possible.” I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s baffled by his sharp moves. We’ve all tried to mirror that thriller dance, moonwalk in our socks, or see how far we can lean without falling.

Michael has also set tons of fashionable trends that many fans try to emulate. From the hat, the army jacket, the thriller jacket, the high pants, the aviator shades, and we can’t forget the sparkling glove on one hand. Michael’s trends have had an impact everywhere just as his music has.

The king of pop has always been in the media’s eye. He’s made numerous of magazine covers, interviews, and breaking news. As heard in a few songs which Michael tells the media to leave him alone. Such as Scream a duet he did with his little sister Janet and Leave me Alone from the Bad album.

Michael just like any other person had his ups and downs. Recognizing this also, he said “it’s been the best of times, it’s been the worst of times. But I would not change my career. While some have made deliberate attempts to hurt me I take it and stride”…

And stride he did across the stage, music charts, the media, and across the globe. He captivated all hearts with striking a single pose, and made every nation groove with one beat. But on July 25, 2009 he made the world cry with his sudden death. It was a shock toDOES MY MICHAEL JACKSON ESSAY SOUND GOOD ENOUGH ENOUGH 2 PUBLISH?
If you were to write an article or essay whose subject was to be Michael Jackson, you would need to reveal something original and new about him -- personal, as the organization which rejected your essay above suggested. The information you have revealed is easily available to anyone and is, in fact, widely known. Millions of words have been written and voiced in regard to Michael; the general population, at this point, is interested only learning what is unique or newsworthy about him. It is unlikely that you can write an essay whose subject is Michael Jackson and which will be marketable unless you have known him intimately and can reveal secrets which are unknown to the public -- such as those tapes that the rabbi is releasing currently. Unfortunately, I doubt that you can actually write anything about Michael which will be accepted for publication, since you have had no personal contact with him, are not a relative or friend. I am sorry to be discouraging, but I am also trying to give you my honest opinion. (You write well; why not turn your talent in another direction?)
