Who do you think writes the best song lyrics?

Sometimes when I turn on the radio I'll be comfronted with a song which has lyrics that are so bad theyre painful to listen to. An example of that would be Avril lavigne. Man she writes terrible lyrics. Embarresingly bad lyrics. But unfortunaltely she's not alone. Christina aguillera writes shockingly awful lyrics too. Same with pretty much any mainstream pop act. Thats why its like food for the soul when I hear a song that has proper lyrics. And I reckon Bruce springstien writes THE best lyrics of anybody around. He writes about things that matter and his words are sheer poetry. I think in another life bruce couldve been a novelist.

personally, i think jon foreman writes some incredible lyrics. there are some incredible messages in his works...as a solo artist and with switchfoot. i also enjoy ryan adams' lyrics.

My personal no.1 is not very well known in public, but she deserves indeed a mention here. Roma Ryan is the name of the lyricist, everything she writes for Enya is pure poetry!

I would say The Cure because Robert Smith is a very intelligent song writer. It's very deep.
